Since I live in Niger where it often reaches 120 degrees, I always look forward to the festival we have every year at the end of hot season. It is called "yenendi" which means "cooling off." During the festival we sing and dance a lot and ask the spirits to bring lots of rain and a plentiful harvest. There is a man who has been coming to our village to tell our people about a God who really hears our prayers and answers them. I'm beginning to believe that what this man says in true. But since I am a young woman, I am not respected by the village elders. I will have to follow in the ways of my people for now.
