Voices of the Faithful - March 8th (page 83)
Prayer: Kidnapped!
“The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear? The Lord is the
stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid?” Psalm 27:1 (NIV)
After several months in language school, we drove to a neighboring
country to visit our future home. A few hours into our journey, a car
occupied by four men brandishing an automatic rifle and a pistol pulled
us over. Three of them got into our car, forcing us into the backseat.
Our four children were between 3 months and 9 years old. The two oldest were terrified, but they calmed down as their father spoke with them. I grabbed the baby out of her car seat on my way to the back of the car. She and our 3-year-old son napped almost the entire time. He even snuggled up next to one of the hijackers!
My mind was reeling as I considered all that could happen. I experienced a new understanding of praying “without ceasing” (1 Thess. 5:17, NASB). God gradually calmed my frantic thoughts as I pleaded with Him to spare us. His peace pervaded our hearts, and I finally came to the conclusion that if I had to die, I wanted Him to be glorified somehow. However, God saw fit to end the event in a different way. After two hours, the men drove us a mile off the road, took some of our things, let the air out of a tire and left us. How we thank God! They only took one of our two spare tires, so after changing the flat, we were able to go back home.
We praise Him for protecting us. Truly He is our light, our defense and our salvation.

Father, Your Word says, “The righteous cry and the Lord hears and delivers them
out of all their troubles” (Ps. 34:17, NASB). Thank You that You protected this
family. I pray that You will watch over missionaries all over the world today.
Protect them from the evil one. Give them peace and safety.
Amen.
