God is Trustworthy
“The Lord lives, and blessed be my rock; and exalted be the God of my salvation.
... He delivers me from my enemies. ... You rescue me from the violent man.
Therefore I will give thanks to You among the nations, O Lord, and I will sing
praises to Your name.” Psalm 18:46, 48a, 48c, 49 (NASB)
My eyes were wide open in the dark. I heard something. I checked the
time—2:20 a.m.—and something didn’t seem right. Then someone
whispered, “Turn around.” Suddenly, I was face to face with a flashlight
and two armed men.
I stared into eyes of evil intent, and a gun was brought into clear
view. To my horror, unthinkable threats flowed from their mouths. I
shrieked, and they forced my face into the mattress. As two hours unfolded,
I was stripped and bound with computer cords, praying for my
life and my purity. I could not understand why this was happening but
began quietly praying, “Lord, is this Your determined end for me? Father,
may Your sovereign will be done.”
My heart immediately filled with peace, and I knew He was with
me. I began to softly sing, “Takwaba uwaba nga Yesu” (tock-WAH-bah oo-
WAH-bah gah YEH-sue). “There’s no one like Jesus.”
One man’s face distorted into confusion, and he began to tie me
tighter. “Should we kill her?” he asked. “No,” the other responded, grabbing
more items to steal. “Let’s go.”
Despite the bruises and trauma, my life was spared and my purity
was left intact. God had saved me. There is no one like Jesus! I can’t explain
why my enemies didn’t finish me off. Was it my Lord’s convicting
presence or His great faithfulness? He has stirred within me an even
deeper trust in Him. Even if I had not been delivered, He is still trustworthy
and faithful.

Father, thank You that You are trustworthy and faithful. Thank You that you
spared this single woman from further violation and death. Protect women
missionaries on the field, and may they trust and praise You whenever evil is
intended toward them. I trust You today with my life. Amen.
