Missionary kids are a great group. To join you just have to have parents who are missionaries. Then you are an M.K. for life! This is a club that you never grow too big or old for.
Every year groups of missionaries get together for their annual meeting. Usually they are together with other missionaries in their common country or common people group focus. It is a family affair, everyone gets to go. Recently an annual meeting took place within the Zimbabwe/Botswana group of missionaries. It was a time of renewing friendships, reporting on work, being refreshed in the Spirit, and generally just having fun.

Missionary kids have a tight bond with the other missionary families on their team or in their country. They call the adults Aunt and Uncle which makes all the kids cousins. (Sometimes referring to people in this way can help you draw closer to them and you can truly have the family that you miss in the States.) When missionaries are on Stateside Assignment they try to attend the BIG events of m.k.s. These events could include weddings, graduations, funerals, etc. after all they are a mission family.
Some areas recognize their missionary kids for the amount of time spent on the field, just like they do the dads and moms. These kids are a big part of the ministry of a missionary. Some m.k.s are born on the field so their years on the field amount to the same as their age. Others come later and don't have as much time on the field. Either way, it is a special honor when you are recognized for the 5 years, 10 years, or 15 years that you have spent on the field as an m.k.
