God's Creation

Elephants, lions, baboons, giraffes, trees, plants - ah, the wilds of Africa!

For missionary kid, Craig Sorley, nothing beat being outside. Being "outside" in Africa means watching elephants, rhinos, or birds as well as climbing purple or red flowered trees. His family didn't have ordinary pets. They had monkeys, dykers, birds and a python.

His love for animals, trees and plants grew despite going back to the United States for college. After Craig married Tracey, the two returned to Africa as missionaries. Now, he uses his childhood love to spread God's love. He teaches about God's creation and how to take care of it.

Most people in Kenya are farmers or have a garden. Craig said this makes it easy to talk about God. He simply talks about how God made the trees or how He made the corn seed used in their gardens. He tells Kenyan farmers that through creation, God shows how awesome He is.

"What is more amazing, a bird flying or the space shuttle?" Craig said. "God created something that we'll never be able to copy. Sometimes, we need to stop and be delighted by the beauty God created."

Craig teaches that Christians need to take care of the environment. Adam was put on the earth by God to take care of His creations. The task has not changed for humans over the years.

In many communities, there are no Christians. Often, missionaries are not welcomed. But, because Craig helps the farmers, he is welcomed with open arms. He goes in and helps the farmers to plant trees to keep the land from eroding - all the while, telling of Jesus' love and power.

Take time to notice God's creation today! Admire a bird in flight, look for a flower, run through the grass barefoot - God made it all!

Pray for missionaries who use God's gift of creation to spread His love.
